Rachael Ray in a Doggie Bag

29 July 2008 3 Comments

Rachael Ray is the highly energetic host of Food Networks 30 Minute Meals. In her plan to gastronomically conquer the world Rachael has moved from human citizens to the animal citizens. She has launched her own brand of dog food based on recipes (yes, I said recipes) for her pit bull Isaboo. The proceeds from Rachael Ray Nourish pet foods will actually fund an animal charity, which is actually pretty cool.

Rachael and Isaboo

I barely have enough energy in a given day to fix a frozen tv dinner for my family AND scoop dry pet food into the bowl, but Rachael has more energy (or perhaps intravenous drip of caffeine?) than she knows what to do with, “It seemed like not a lot of extra time to donate to something that could potentially raise millions of dollars for championing these little creatures that can’t speak for themselves,” Ray taunts me.

No worries, cat lovers, your turn is coming. She’s developing a line of cat food, too. Rumors have also circulated that recipes for gourmet fish food, bird seed and plant food are on the drawing board. Rachael plans to leave no tummy unturned.

Once again you have tickled my funny bone Jennifer Mienko :)

I think the whole dog food thing is ridiculous, but I actually really like Rachael Ray.

Well I don’t know about this foll. I don’t care much for her either. She will do something to screw up. She as before. I use to watch her cooking show but I turn off the tv now.

I cannot believe that she is marketing this as a Super Premium Dog food “There are no fillers. No junk. Just lots of good, wholesome stuff,” when it is chock full of fillers and dog allergens. Corn meal is undigestible for dogs and a source of allergies as are soy and wheat (so is beef for a lot of dogs BTW). Corn Gluten is processed from the dregs swept off the floor as is brewers rice. Animal fat means ANY animal’s fat (ie: road kill, euthanized animals, diseased or dead livestock, etc). In her defense, I am sure Rachel Ray does not know what she put her name on…..I am certain she has good intentions and I applaud her for her efforts and donating the proceeds to charity. Also, there are worse things you could feed your dog, like Beneful, but…. Someone sold her a bag of goods….and for $8.50 for a 6lb bag, you can’t honestly expect to have a high quality food. If you want a REAL super premium dog food try Innova, HALO, Natural Balance, etc. It’s expensive, but worth every penny. I feed my dogs and cats HALO and Natural Balance and it has made a world of difference in their lives.
