Jackson 5 Gets Lifetime Achievement Award?

The Jackson 5

Reuters reported that the Jackson 5, all of them, were going to be honored with lifetime achievement awards at performing rights group BMI’s eighth annual Urban Awards on September 4. Surely, this is incorrect, right? More than half those guys haven’t really “achieved” for their “lifetime.” I concede that Janet and, though I loathe to say it, Michael (ewww) did pretty well for themselves and have been able to squeak out continued success even after their peak. But the rest of those guys? Janet’s boob and Jacko’s nose have gotten more press attention than all the rest of the “5″ after their heyday (30 years ago) put together! Can we really call that lifetime achievement? I didn’t think so.

Janet Jackson

So I Googled BMI and right after I calculated my body mass index (respectable) I found on Broadcast Music, Inc’s website that the Jacksons are NOT getting a lifetime achievement award, but are rather being named BMI icons. “The Icon designation is given to BMI songwriters and artists who have had ‘a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.’ The Jacksons will be saluted with an all-star musical tribute during the ceremony, and join an elite group that includes James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, The Bee Gees, Willie Nelson and Carlos Santana, to name a few.”

James Brown

The Bee Gees

Carlos Santana

I’m cool with that, but more importantly I just found that I’m a better fact checker than the guy at Reuters! Awesome!

Is there anyone out there who can name all the members of The Jackson 5 WITHOUT LOOKING?? (Hint: there’s more than 5 of them).
