Alexander of Cuma Will Not Be Pleased

Pope Benedict has declared pollution to be a Cardinal sin. Although I agree with this guy’s logic, I have to say I am a little hesitant over the addition of solar panels to the facade of the Vatican. One of the reasons I have been married to Catholicism for as long as I have is the fact that I am scared into submission by the Gothic architecture of the the Vatican and similar churches around the world. For some reason, solar panels just don’t do the same thing for me as gargoyles with flesh hanging from their teeth (now that’s architecture I can have faith in).

Alexander of Cuma was the patron saint of charcoal burners. What a noble distinction!

I’ve been searching sources trying to find where the Pope has supposedly declared pollution a cardinal sin and to no avail! Can you please connect me with your source on this matter? Thank you.

My pleasure, Angela. There is a link in the story above, but there is also a more specific one here, which lists pollution and a few other uniquely modern sins. I hope this helps.

Patron saint of charcoal burners? Man! All the good ones are taken. I bet there’s even a saint of belly button lint pickers.
