Leading Lady Antebellum Rejected by ‘American Idol’
Before country music group Lady Antebellum became the best-selling artist of 2010 (so far, due to its smash “Need You Now”), its leading lady, Hillary Scott, was rejected by “American Idol.” Actually, she was rejected by the singing competition twice.
According to The Boot.com, the trio–rounded out by Charles Kelley and Dave Hayward–spoke about the reality series, and actually defended it against recent criticism in the media from Scott Borchetta, head of Taylor Swift’s record label, Big Machine.
“Man, talent’s talent’s talent,” Kelley said. “I mean, it’s so hard to get a break. I think that show honestly is one of the greatest things. I truly do.”
He continued discussing the importance of contacts and having a foot in the door, which Lady Antebellum thankfully had.
“One thing we realize, too, is it’s all being in the right place at the right time. We had a foot in the door. My brother’s Josh Kelley (singer, married to Katherine Heigl). (Hillary’s) mom is Linda Davis, who sang a duet with Reba McEntire (the hit “Does He Love You”). So we already had a foot in the door to say, ‘Hey man, can somebody come check us out?’ So we realize that it’s so hard to get discovered and just be heard.”
While struggling to get such a break, Scott auditioned for the show, now in its ninth season, but did not make it past the first round. Blogs are using this info to chuckle in Simon Cowell and the other judges’ faces, but it’s my understanding that the first round of auditions is not in front of the celebrity judges we all know at all, so I don’t think Cowell and company ever witnessed her audition.
Scott said they told her to keep trying, and her bandmates chimed in when the conversation went to Simon.
“I love his honesty,” Kelley said.
“It’s not gonna be the same without him,” Hawyard added, in regards to this season being Cowell’s last on the show as he pursues an American version of his other talent show, “The X Factor.”
Currently, Lady Antebellum are on tour with country powerhouse Tim McGraw, but the accolades keep rolling in for them as they recently took home three Academy of Country Music Awards: Top Vocal Group, Single of the Year and Song of the Year for “Need You Now.”

One door closes, many more open
Sometimes I think American Idol is hit or miss. Here’s what I mean – the auditions are not strictly talent-based. David Cook is a great example. He was there with his brother to support him, when a Producer approached him (David) and told him to audition. And he won. Obviously, I’m agreeing there’s some talent there, but when you look at the crowds of people who show up, there are bound to be people who are great singers and talent who get missed. So needless to say, it’s hilarious when someone like this hits it big and reminds American Idol that they passed on her…
P.S. Did you move your site to a new server. It is so much easier (and quicker) to comment on here now. Awesome!

Congrats to her. I have come across lots of rejected IDOLS.
It’a amazing how often similar things happen. Elvis Presley lost a talent show and was told to go back to driving a truck!

Life & Beauty Weekly: Expert Q+A
A: "This sort of kindness is rare, so it’s natural you’d want to reciprocate. But if you have offered to repay (or treat) her and she resists, there’s no need to insist on giving her money.
Also try not to feel bad that she always pays. Coffee isn’t a big expense, and it sounds like she enjoys treating you. She may do it because she appreciates your friendship or support at work. Or perhaps she likes having an excuse to get out of the office and doesn’t mind shelling out a few extra dollars for you. Regardless, just thank her each time she pays. Then, every once in a while, surprise her with a tin of cookies or muffins. Or once a month or so, tell her you are taking her out for lunch. "

Men’s Life Today: Expert Q+A
A: "There’s no easy answer as to why you get them. Ingrown hairs are more noticeable in men with really thick hair -- as ingrown hairs are more prevalent in people with thick hair -- or dark hair with light skin. However, there are a couple of key things you can do to heal them and prevent future outbreaks.
First of all, it helps to understand the evolution of an ingrown hair: After hair removal, as the hair starts growing back, the sharp tip of the hair curls back in on itself and digs into the skin, leading to inflammation and irritation. If you do get one, remember this mantra: Put down the tweezers. Plucking ingrown hairs invariably fails and causes additional irritation. Instead, try applying an over-the-counter cortisone cream to help relieve inflammation, then head to a laser dermatologist for laser hair removal (no, not removal of all your hair -- just the problem ones). Realistically, laser’s the only long-term solution for ingrown hairs.
Electrolysis isn’t practical because of the number and thickness of hairs involved. And as for waxing, well, remember the 40-year-old Virgin? Enough said."
